相遇之家

好像一切都很糟糕

Ayşe, Ali, Mehmet and Zeynep are middle-class millennials struggling to make ends meet in Istanbul. Either still living with their parents or hardly getting by without help from their families, they are all beset by similar woes: money crunch, joblessness, social isolation. In view of the world’s horrors that Zeynep enumerates in her diary entries, these are minor problems, ‘slight disasters’, but they are all-consuming, at least to the extent of making them cry in the still of the night. 　　However, Umut Subasi’s first feature, Almost Entirely a Slight Disaster, is not a melodrama. With an appealingly light touch, it diagnoses the malaise of a generation that has run up against a dead end, one whose future prospects are indistinguishable from a game of chance. This is a world where astrology, the lottery and online personality tests compete with visa and job applications as life-shaping elements. 　　Fittingly, the film is structured around chance and coincidence, with its handful of characters encountering each other in every permutation, as though there were no world outside this small social bubble. 人到中年的车仔拥有一间网吧，但在手机游戏的冲击下，早已人气不再；三十未到的电竞选手邦少正在面对实力下滑的职业困境；单亲家庭长大的霏霏大学毕业超过五年，还未有过一份稳定工作。曾是动作巨星的八爷因为妻子阿兰出现脑退化，年过70的二人尝试利用电子游戏来锻炼大脑。一张全港电竞赛的征集海报，让想要拯救网吧的车仔决定组队。车仔、霏霏、八爷，三个新手再加上一个急于证明自己的邦少，Happy Hour电竞队正式成立。亲情、友情的羁绊化作电竞赛场的搏杀，一场不可能完成的战斗，让心怀梦想的他们不再抱憾。

　　Driving home late at night during a heavy rainstorm, Glen experiences car trouble. Near where his car gets stuck, he spots a house, knocks on the door and is greeted by an oddly friendly middle-aged man, Arthur, and his younger wife, Cyndi. The strange couple pours him a drink, and then more drinks, followed by an unexpected offer that Glen can’t refuse. Elsewhere, a young woman, Katie, is feeling emotionally weighed down by a secret romantic arrangement that feels like a textbook case of gaslighting. And at the same time, in a nondescript research facility, medical professional Julie begins questioning her role in a bizarre experiment, fearing that she’s doing more harm than good.
