柾木在大学好友池内的邀请下去观看舞台剧，并被登台表演的芙蓉所吸引。然而，他逐渐开始怀疑芙蓉与池内之间的关系。于是柾木与一个对芙蓉心怀厌恶的神秘女子小林合作…… 　　影片根据江户川乱步的同名中篇小说改编。

 罗伯特．Z．伦纳德导演的这部影片以百老汇最大的歌舞团——齐格菲歌舞团的创办人佛罗伦斯．齐格菲的生平为题材，是三十年代好莱坞歌舞片黄金时代的重要代表作之一。当时获得了第九届奥斯卡最佳影片等三项大奖，女星路易丝．莱娜演出齐格菲的首任妻子，获最佳女主角奖。齐格菲年轻时是杂耍节目中表演的艺人。1893年到百老汇发展，建立了歌舞团的知名度，1907年创办了以美女盛装演出大型歌舞著称的齐格菲歌舞团，赢得歌舞大王的称号。齐格菲一角由威廉．鲍威尔担纲演出，男女主角都表演得很好。

 7th century Arabia. A time of feuding tribes vying for power and supremacy.
